Formation of heavy fermion state in USn$$_3$$

Kambe, Shinsaku; Sakai, Hironori; Tokunaga, Yo; Matsuda, Tatsuma; Haga, Yoshinori; Chudo, Hiroyuki

no journal, ,

In order to characterize the heavy fermion formation in USn$$_3$$, Knight shift and spin-lattice relaxation time $$T_1$$ of $$^{119}$$Sn NMR are measured. Dynamical property ($$T_1$$) and static property (the specific heat) at the heavy fermion state can be described in a quantitatively consistent way based on the spin-fluctuation model with constant energy scales. However, an introduction of $$T$$-dependent effective RKKY interaction is necessary to describe the crossover from the incoherent localized to the coherent heavy fermion states.

Calculation of nuclear charge radii by using the mass models taking axially asymmetric deformation into consideration

Iimura, Hideki; Buchinger, F.*

no journal, ,

Nuclear charge radii have been calculated by using the parameters for mass calculation with Finite Range Droplet Model. The deformation parameters were taken from the recent Finite Range Liquid Drop Model calculation by M$"o$ller which takes axially asymmetric deformation into consideration. By comparing the obtained theoretical radii with the experimental ones for many nuclei, it has been found that the agreement is improved.

We start a study of the Compton backscattered X-ray generation with the Nd:YAG laser photons and the 150 MeV electron beam from the microtron accelerator at KPSI-JAEA. The maximum energy of the generated X-ray is estimated to 400 keV. We report the present status and the future prospects of this study at the meeting.

Developments for 2 and 3 dimensional elemental prompt $$gamma$$-ray analysis using thermal neutron beam

Segawa, Mariko; Matsue, Hideaki; Yamada, Satoru*; Shinohara, Takenao; Sasao, Hajime*; Suzuki, Junichi; Shimizu, Hirohiko*

no journal, ,

Since the penetration probability of neutron is higher than that of charged particles, the 2 and 3 dimensional prompt $$gamma$$-ray analysis methods with use of neutron beam is the only way enables the nondestructive, isotopic and position dependent observation on small quantities of samples. We constructed the 2 and 3 dimensional prompt $$gamma$$-ray analysis(2 and 3 DPGA)systems with a high position resolution using focused neutron beam in Prompt $$gamma$$-ray Analysis system(PGA) at JAEA. Using this developed system including the HP Ge-detector, we succeeded in dividing the two neutron captured $$gamma$$-ray peaks from two minute Cd wired-samples, the diameter is 0.25 mm$$phi$$ and the length is 5 mm, sideways arranged at intervals of 1mm.

Structure of liquid metal hydride

Katayama, Yoshinori; Saito, Hiroyuki; Aoki, Katsutoshi

no journal, ,

It is known that several metals absorb large amount of hydrogen. Although there are many studies in the solid state, little is known about the structure of metal hydrides in the liquid state. Fukai has suggested the existence of liquid metal hydrides which contains large amount of hydrogen in the liquid state under high hydrogen pressure. To confirm the existence of liquid metal hydride, we have carried out high-pressure high-temperature X-ray diffraction experiments using a cubic-type multi-anvil apparatus installed in BL14B1 in SPring-8. The starting materials is vanadium hydride, V$$_{2}$$H Using a mixture of NaBH$$_{4}$$ and Ca(OH)$$_{2}$$ as hydrogen source, we have observed transformation from V$$_{2}$$H to VH$$_{2}$$ at 5 GPa and 973 K. However, it transforms to VH at higher temperature and solid VH was stable up to melting temperature of NaCl, which is used as a sample container. Experiments on other materials are under way and the results will be reported.
